Beresford Clarke

Beresford Clarke

Managing Director & Head of Research; Member of the Executive Committee

MSc, BSc (Hons), MSAIMM

Beresford’s principal remit is responsibility for the analyst team, research and product innovation, and as lead research author.

Beresford has been a strategic metals market analyst for 15 years. In this time, his development and deep understanding of the markets have been fast tracked with extensive industry exposure throughout the upstream and downstream industry. Beresford has led research and consulting projects in platinum group metals, lithium, automotive technology and other strategic commodities for OEMs, fabricators, end users, suppliers and financial institutions.

His passion for the automotive industry and his innovative approach to forecast modelling have guaranteed SFA’s lead in commodity research. Through industry sponsorship and interaction, Beresford pioneered SFA’s independent demand models. His continuing involvement in database evolution and team selection and a creative drive to find new ways to present analysis ensure that SFA continues to break new ground in modelling and market presentation.

Beresford also has upstream experience including high profile work in M&A defence, acquisitions and capital raisings ($5bn to date), project valuations, on-site mine restructuring, feasibility studies, industry workshops and Board-level motivations and strategy. He is regularly contracted to carry out work for mining companies, refiners, end-users, recyclers and investors.

Beresford officially joined SFA (Oxford) in 2005 as an analyst, having worked with the company since 2003. As the business took off, he built a team of analysts to cover all aspects of the market. He was promoted from Senior Analyst to Head of Research and Principal Market Analyst in 2008, then Managing Director in May 2013.

Prior to joining SFA (Oxford), Beresford was a Precious Metals Market Analyst in London and an Operations Coordinator for an exploration company in Africa.
