Ivanhoe Mines’ Co-Chairmen Robert Friedland and Yufeng “Miles” Sun announced today that the company’s South African subsidiary, Ivanplats, has completed construction of the 996-metre-level station at the bottom of the project’s Shaft 1 – well ahead of the contractual schedule. Shaft 1 now is positioned to be equipped as Platreef’s initial production shaft, if Ivanhoe chooses to proceed with phased development to expedite production at the tier-one palladium-platinum-nickel-copper-rhodium-gold project on the Northern Limb of South Africa’s Bushveld Complex.

Eastern Platinum Limited announces that its subsidiary, Barplats Mines (Pty) Ltd., has entered into a project framework agreement with Advanced Beneficiation Technologies Proprietary Limited of South Africa , an organization fully compliant as a Black Economic Empowerment Entrepreneur and a member of the Omang Group of companies, to complete an independent feasibility study for the development and construction of a new modular plant with a capacity to process the platinum group metals of the tailings redeposited at a designated area of the Zandfontein Tailings Dam situated at the Crocodile River Mine in South Africa at a rate of between 20,000 and 50,000 tons per month (the final rate is dependent on the optimal outcome of the Feasibility Study).

SILVER: Fresnillo surfs silver wave to top FTSE 100 risers

Precious metals producer Fresnillo’s share price climbed more than 9 per cent on Wednesday, cementing its position as the year’s best-performing UK blue-chip stock after reporting stronger than anticipated silver production. The company, whose seven mines are all in Mexico, said it produced 13.6m ounces of silver in the three months to the end of June, up 2.8 per cent from the previous quarter and ahead of market estimates. Analysts had expected output of 12.2m ounces.
