Expertise and career highlights
Franklin is a Commodity Analyst at SFA (Oxford), bringing a firm academic grounding in Earth Sciences from the University of Oxford and practical experience spanning geomatics, mineral economics and applied geoscience. His analytical work supports SFA’s research across battery minerals, PGMs and broader critical raw materials, including mineral sands, contributing to SFA’s market intelligence and long-term strategic assessments.
Franklin joined SFA after completing his MEarthSci in Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford, where he specialised in machine learning for geological systems, utilising convolutional neural networks on time series seismic data. During his time at Oxford, he held leadership roles within student geological societies, serving as President and Secretary of the Oxford University Geological Society, and later revived the Oxford Society of Economic Geologists as its Secretary, strengthening links between students, academics, and the mining sector.
Before joining SFA, Franklin worked as a Geomatics Graduate at Dalcour Maclaren, gaining experience in land title registration, surveying workflows and geospatial data management. Leveraging his experience at Verisk, he brings experience in supply-side country and commodity risk. He has undertaken periods of work in Tokyo and Athens, broadening his international experience. His academic and early career exposure to geological systems, and geomatics has provided a strong foundation in research, data analysis, GIS and applied geology.
