Notwithstanding the winding down of mining activities to ensure that our underground operations were safely and effectively placed into a care and maintenance cycle for the duration of the initial 21-day National Lockdown, total reef tonnes hoisted for the quarter increased by 8.7% to 954 kt. BRPM tonnes hoisted were 1.5% lower at 520 kt and Styldrift tonnes hoisted increased by 24.0%to 434 kt.

PGM PRODUCERS: Anglo American Platinum production report for the first quarter ended 31 March 2020

Total PGM production of 954,800 ounces decreased 7% (against prior period Q1 2019), with platinum production down 7% to 440,900 ounces and palladium production down 7% to 303,100 ounces. The impact of the shutdowns implemented by the Government of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) in response to curbing the outbreak of COVID-19 led to a loss of 61,000 PGM ounces in the quarter. Eskom load-shedding also impacted production, largely at Amandelbult, resulting in a loss of 8,300 PGM ounces.

FUEL TYPES: Fuel types of new buses: diesel 85%, hybrid 4.8%, electric 4%, alternative fuels 6.2% share in 2019

Brussels, 21 April 2020 – Last year, 85.0% of all new medium and heavy buses (over 3.5 tonnes) registered in the European Union were fuelled by diesel, while the market share of petrol in this segment was close to zero. All alternatively-powered vehicles (APV) combined accounted for 15.0% of the EU bus market in 2019, with electrically-chargeable vehicles (ECV) making up 4.0% of total new bus registrations.
