SFA (Oxford)'s special PGM event returned to New York Platinum Week to discuss how global events will impact the palladium market in the year ahead. This exclusive event, on the theme 'PGM and Electric Vehicles: Alternative Outcomes?' explored the current state of the PGM market, and the future as electric vehicle sales continue to rise. Beresford Clarke and Lakshya Gupta together offered their unique industry-leading views on the future opportunities and challenges for palladium.

Beresford presented SFA's industry-leading palladium market view and explored various critical issues facing palladium. In addition, all attendees received our latest issue of The Palladium Standard. This highly sought-after publication features articles on relevant topics addressing the current uncertainty in the PGM markets and collates all the key industry data and indicators for the past 12 months.

Beresford has been a strategic metals market analyst for over 20 years, leading research projects in PGMs, battery metals and materials, automotive technology and other strategic commodities for OEMs, fabricators, end-users, recyclers and suppliers. His upstream experience, includes high-profile work in M&A defence, acquisitions and capital raisings ($5 billion to date), project valuations, on-site mine restructuring, feasibility studies, industry workshops and Board-level motivations and strategy.

EVs and their impact on palladium

Lakshya examined the potential palladium demand upside if electric vehicles fail to meet the aggressive sales forecasts that are widely promulgated currently. 

Since joining SFA in 2018, Lakshya has advised on due diligence studies in battery materials, technologies and associated metals (cobalt, lithium, nickel), and EV battery recycling market assessments. He models SFA's automotive battery demand and addresses the evolving regional mix of battery metals in cathode technologies.

Lakshya was an integral part of SFA's research to the ‘Future of cities and mobility solutions’ report, a global deep-dive study focusing on the impact on strategic commodities from emerging technologies and shifting market trends. 

Lakshya has a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London.
