Eastern Limb
PGM supply in the Bushveld Complex
A long, mechanised future of PGM production ahead
The Eastern Limb offers substantial potential for long-life PGM production, with several operations benefiting from shallower, mechanisable orebodies and opportunities for further expansion. However, unlocking this potential requires significant investment in mine development, processing capacity and supporting infrastructure. Complex geological conditions can also constrain productivity, while new operations often face extended permitting, construction and production ramp-up periods. Consequently, although the Eastern Limb contains a considerable undeveloped resource base, additional supply is likely to enter the market gradually rather than providing a rapid replacement for declining production elsewhere.
