The Oxford Platinum Lectures 2019

Celebrating 10 years of the Oxford Platinum Lectures

Time for Adoption

Friday 10th May, Oxford University, Museum of Natural History

In 2019, SFA (Oxford) was proud to celebrate 10 years of hosting the Oxford Platinum Lectures. In response to the unprecedented challenges facing the platinum market today, we have invited leading international experts to provide insightful presentations on pathways to new opportunities for the platinum industry. The platinum price has fallen to close to $800/oz, representing a discount of more than $550/oz over palladium and more than $450/oz over gold. Demand for both autocatalyst and jewellery applications has been contracting and the market is well supplied. With its superior physical and chemical properties, surely now is the time to reconsider platinum – is it “Time for AdoPtion”?

We invited expert speakers to provide insight into the potential for platinum use in major applications, including the potential switch back to platinum from palladium in autocatalysts, platinum’s evolving role in heavy-duty vehicles, proactive initiatives by producers to boost platinum demand including fuel cells, reworking platinum’s jewellery image to appeal to new customers worldwide, and how specialised methods from the aerospace industry are being used for the casting of premium platinum jewellery.
